Paramedics
Our paramedics are highly skilled medical specialists and part of the rescue crew on board the helicopter.
They comprise: Barry Watkin (Advanced Paramedic)
Barry servered 19 years in the Ambulance service before joining ARHT in 1987. As Chief Paramedic, Barry is responsible for maintaining and developing specific treatment procedures in an airomedical environment, and ensuring his team of paramedics have access to the best medical resources. Barry also continues to fulfill a roster as paramedic on the helicopter.
![]() Bruce Kerr
(Advanced Paramedic)
Bruce joined the ambulance service in 1972 before working with ARHT, firstly as a rostered ambulance service paramedic in 1993 and then permanently in 1997. He has participated in over two thousand ARHT rescues and was recognised for this achievement in 2010.
Chris Deacon
(Advanced Paramedic)
'Deacs' has been on the ARHT team since 1997 and worked as an ambulance officer for St John beforehand.
Russell Clarke
(Advanced Paramedic)
Russell has come from the New Zealand Air Force where he served as a paramedic for 20 years.
He joined ARHT in 2009.
ARHT has a close partnership with St John, who provide advanced paramedics on a rotating-roster basis. The following are members of our St John medical team:
