Rescue chopper flies from Whitianga base Hauraki Herald Oct 28 2011 The Auckland Westpac Rescue helicopter was in the skies over the Coromandel Peninsula again last weekend with the craft based at Whitianga from Friday until Monday. On Saturday the crew was called to the scene at Pauanui airfield where a plane smashed through the airfield barriers but was stood down en route as the were no injuries. But the helicopter did take several people to hospital on the weekend. On Saturday a young male patient was collected in Whangamata and taken to Waikato Hospital while on Sunday the crew returned to Whangamata for another male who was also flown to Waikato Hospital following an accident. Also on Sunday a four-year-old boy with a broken arm was flown from Whitianga to Waikato Hospital. |
