Man seriously injured in 'industrial explosion' in Tuakau, south of Auckland - Stuff

A man received serious injuries in an industrial explosion at a workplace in Tuakau in north Waikato on Saturday.

The man, in his 20s, was injured when an explosion happened in a "confined space", a spokesman from the Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopter said.

"When crews arrived, the patient required a rapid sequence intubation to assist his breathing," the spokesman said.

The helicopter flew the man to Middlemore Hospital in a serious condition.

A spokeswoman from WorkSafe confirmed the organisation had been notified of the incident and initial inquiries were being made.

An ambulance and two rapid response vehicles had also attended the scene, a St John spokeswoman confirmed.
