Person critically injured, others seriously hurt in crash south of Auckland - Stuff

One person is in a critical condition, and at least two others were seriously injured in a car crash south of Auckland.

Emergency services were called to the two-car collision in McKenzie Rd in Waiau Pa, near Karaka, about 8.10pm.

Fire and Emergency shift manager Paul Radden said three people were trapped in one vehicle.

Two people had been cut free, and crews were working with rescue equipment to release the third person, he said.

Police said initial indications were three people had received serious injuries.

Three fire trucks – 12 firefighters in total – were at the scene at about 9pm, Radden said.

A spokeswoman for the Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust confirmed the Westpac helicopter was tasked to the incident.

Crews transported one person in a critical condition to hospital via ambulance, the spokeswoman told Stuff.

A police spokeswoman said as of 11pm, the road remains closed while police conduct a scene examination.

Earlier, police said diversions were in place on Kingseat and McKenzie Rd, McKenzie Rd and Wright Rd, and Clarks Beach Rd and McKenzie Rd.

Motorists were advised to avoid the area.
