Former Rescue Patient Wins Big Prize at Rescue Ride

The 3rd annual Cyclespot Group Rescue Ride was another huge success this year!

A massive thank you to all the riders who turned out to show their support for our charity and an even bigger thank you to our incredible sponsors, Grant and the team at Cyclespot Group, Yamaha Motor New Zealand, Indian Motorcycle, Kawasaki Motors NZ and KTM New Zealand. Your generosity is hugely appreciated.

The highlight of the day was seeing former rescue patient Chris’s face light up as he took home the $20,000 motorbike spot prize.

Back in 2022, Chris had been out riding with four friends in Kaiaua when they stopped for a coffee along their route. The next thing he remembers is waking up in Middlemore Hospital a week later. His bike had skidded on loose gravel that had spilled from a driveway onto the road, and he sustained a head injury. Our helicopter crew transported him from Kaiaua to Middlemore Hospital in serious condition. Chris, who is still managing the effects of his injury today, says he can’t stress enough to fellow bikers the importance of wearing a good-quality helmet - one that undoubtedly helped save his life.

We hope to see all our riders again next year for the ride that saves lives!
